This is Vivetra’s own comparison of competing products — we chose the vendors and wrote the framing, so read it as our argument, checked against sourced facts, not a neutral third party’s. Every competitor pricing figure and claim above is shown as published by that vendor or the cited record, in the currency each vendor quotes, and was verified as of 2026-08-02. Prices and features move; if a figure here is out of date or wrong, tell us at [email protected] and we correct or remove it within 5 business days. Vivetra’s own price is identical in every supported currency — no conversion, ever — so switching the currency selector only changes the symbol and tax note beside it, never the digits.
On HVMS, stated current
HVMS is the most direct equine comparison in the priced table, so it’s worth being exact about it. As re-verified on 2026-08-02, HVMS lists a flat monthly site license, a separate monthly rate for every revenue-generating vet on top of it, and a one-time implementation fee in the several-thousand-dollar range — the full figures are on its row above, taken from its own pricing page. It can run on-prem or in the cloud, which is a genuine point in its favor for a practice that wants software on hardware it controls.
Two things we deliberately do not say about it, because the evidence doesn’t support them: we don’t claim it’s “one of only two self-hosted options” (that’s an unverifiable comparative ranking), and we don’t say it’s “actively expanding into the UK” — HVMS already has an established UK presence it describes in the past tense, which is not the same as a current push. We’d rather state the boring truth than inflate a competitor into a moving target.
Equine-marketed platforms we didn’t put a price on
These names come up when practices shop for equine software, and it would be easy to pad the table with them. We didn’t — because we don’t have a current, sourced price we were willing to cite for each, and inventing one is exactly the thing this whole comparison exists to avoid. So they’re named here honestly instead.
- ThoroVet. An equine-oriented practice system we could not tie to a published, current price we were willing to cite — so we name it here rather than guess a number in the priced table above.
- Cassadol Equine. Equine-focused, but with no public pricing figure we could source and date. Absent from the priced table for the same reason — no invented number.
- ImproMed Equine. The equine configuration of ImproMed (Covetrus). Its pricing is a one-time-plus-annual-support arrangement rather than a flat published monthly figure, quoted per practice — nothing we can put a single honest number against here.
- Hippo Manager. Markets to “equine” practices, but from what we found it uses the same general small-animal feature set rather than dedicated equine tooling. We list that as our finding, not as a settled fact — and we would rather say it in words than imply depth with a table row.
Where Vivetra genuinely falls short today
Hiding a real limitation is worse than not having it. Here are the honest gaps for the Equine service, stated directly.
- No automatic multi-stop mileage/route billing split — StableTrack does this today. StableTrack ships automatic splitting of a day’s ambulatory route — the mileage and travel billing across multiple stops — as a live, shipped feature right now. Vivetra explicitly defers that past v1. If your ambulatory billing depends on the software auto-splitting a route across stops, StableTrack does it and we do not yet. That’s a known, deferred limitation, not an oversight.
- No built-in payment processing. No Vivetra service processes the payments your clients make to your practice — Vivetra builds the estimate and the invoice, but you keep whatever processor you already use to take a card or bank payment. (That’s unrelated to the checkout you’d use to pay your own Vivetra subscription.)
- We’re newer than the incumbents. HVMS and ImproMed have run equine practices for many years. Vivetra is a newer vendor with less of a track record in the barn — a real consideration we’d rather name than let you find out later.
Questions about this comparison
Why is the price the same whether I have one vet or eight?
Because Vivetra doesn't count vets. HVMS, the closest sourced comparison here, stacks a per-revenue-generating-vet monthly rate on top of a flat site license and a one-time implementation fee — so a growing multi-vet equine practice pays more on more than one axis. Vivetra’s Equine service is one flat monthly rate with unlimited doctors and staff and managed hosting included, so the number you see is the number you pay as the practice grows.
Do I have to run my own server on the farm?
No. Vivetra is fully managed for you — the software runs on infrastructure we operate on your behalf. You never touch a server, never patch an OS, never restore a backup yourself. HVMS is the one product in this table you can genuinely run on-prem if you want that; Vivetra instead gives you fully managed hosting, with no box to operate in a barn office.
What does Vivetra genuinely NOT do that some of these competitors do?
The honest one for equine: StableTrack ships automatic multi-stop mileage and route billing splitting as a live feature today, and Vivetra defers that past v1 — if your ambulatory billing lives or dies on auto-splitting a day’s route across stops, StableTrack does that now and we do not yet. ezyVet’s Syndicates auto-splits an invoice across a horse’s co-owners by ownership percentage; if you run heavily syndicate-owned horses, ask us where that sits on our roadmap before you commit. And there is no built-in payment processing in any Vivetra service — we build the estimate and the invoice, you keep your own processor to take the payment. We're also a newer vendor than several incumbents here. We'd rather say all of that up front than let you find it after signing.
