The white space we built for
Large-animal veterinary work needs two records. One is a clinical patient chart keyed to an individual animal — the same kind of record a small-animal clinic keeps, for the cow or bull actually in front of you. The other is a group/lot ledger built around Group Identification Numbers, the record you need to write and track group treatments and medicines across a pen or a mob rather than one animal at a time.
As we read them, the named competitors in this region each land on one side of that line. VisionVPM is a general Covetrus practice-management system for mixed and large-animal practices. VetIMPRESS is a farm-vet monitoring tool. Vivetra is built to hold both the individual chart and the group medicines ledger in one vet-facing product — we say that confidently because, as of the verification date below, we could not find another product in this market that does.
That thesis is about the staff side, and it stands unchanged. Worth a line, though: your farm clients now get a portal of their own onto the same records — a withdrawal board answering “can this go on a truck today, and can this milk go in the vat” for every pen and every individually-identified animal, the treatment log behind those dates with both tiers side by side, the medicines used with their product lot numbers, and the herd records themselves. It is read-only and deliberately narrow: a compliance answer at six in the morning without a call to your office, not a second place for anyone to edit a record.

Why VetIMPRESS is in this table at all
VetIMPRESS doesn’t list an Australian or New Zealand presence. It’s a Northern Ireland farm-vet data platform, and its own contact page lists sales contacts for the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Belgium/Netherlands — none here. We keep it in the table for reference; it lists no Australian or New Zealand presence, and we’re not suggesting it sells locally. If that changes, tell us and we’ll update the row.
Names you might expect — and why they’re not in the table
A few well-known names get raised in this category. We left them out of the regional comparison on purpose, because putting them head-to-head with a vet-facing clinical-plus-medicines-ledger product would be a category error, not a fair fight. We’d rather explain the omission than pad the table.
- Producer-facing grazing and livestock-management platforms. Australia has strong producer-facing grazing platforms built for the farmer running the herd, not the veterinarian writing the record — a different category, not a direct competitor. The US-anchored global Livestock comparison names AgriWebb and the other producer platforms and compliance bolt-ons in that broad space.
- National livestock identification and traceability databases. Statutory tagging and movement-tracing systems are infrastructure the whole sector reports into, not a practice-facing clinical record. They sit underneath everyone, so tabling one as a rival would compare two different shapes of thing.
- General small-animal practice-management systems. Plenty of AU/NZ PMS products overlap with the clinical-record half of what Vivetra does, but we did not find one shaped around the GIN-based group/lot medicines ledger that defines this service — so a straight table row would compare two different shapes of product.
Where Vivetra genuinely falls short today
Hiding a real limitation is worse than not having it. Here are the honest gaps for the Livestock service, stated directly.
- Vivetra coexists with a general PMS — it does not always replace one. A practice happy with a broad Covetrus PMS that doesn’t need a group/lot medicines ledger has no reason to switch. Vivetra sits alongside those tools where the clinical chart is enough, and replaces them only where both halves — the individual chart and the group ledger — in one vet-facing product is the whole point.
- Web and PWA, no native app. Vivetra runs in the browser and installs as a progressive web app — there is no separate native iOS or Android build. On a phone or tablet in the field it behaves like an app, but if a true native app is a hard requirement for your team, that’s a real gap to weigh.
- No built-in payment processing in the Livestock service. The Livestock service does not process the payments your clients make to your practice — Vivetra builds the record and the invoice, but you keep whatever processor you already use to take a card or bank payment. That is a deliberate scope choice here rather than an omission: the farm-client portal answers compliance questions and points billing questions back at your office. (It is also unrelated to the checkout you’d use to pay your own Vivetra subscription.)
- We’re newer than the incumbents. Several tools around this category have run for years. Vivetra is a newer vendor with less of a track record — a real consideration we’d rather name than let you find out later.

Do I have to run my own server on the property?
No. Vivetra is fully managed for you — the software runs on infrastructure we operate on your behalf. You never touch a server, never patch an OS, never restore a backup yourself. We already run a general PMS like VisionVPM. Does Vivetra replace it?
