Vivetra vs. ezyVet, Vetspire, IDEXX & the vet-practice field
Per-seat and quote-only pricing is the norm in this category — a flat monthly rate that covers unlimited doctors and staff, with managed hosting included, is genuinely rare. Below is the whole field for the Vet Practice service, side by side, with every competitor figure pulled from a sourced, dated record you can check yourself.
Vivetra’s Vet Practice service is $200/mo — the same number at three people or thirty, unlimited staff and fully managed hosting included in that price, not bolted on as a later line item.
The whole field, side by side
Competitor pricing, ownership, and any legal note are shown exactly as our sourced dataset records them — follow the “source” link on any row to the vendor’s own page or the record we relied on.
| Platform | Published pricing & claims | How it’s licensed / notable |
|---|---|---|
| Vivetra (Vet Practice service) | $200/mo, flat — unlimited doctors and staff, never a per-seat or quote-only figure | Fully managed for you: managed hosting included in the price, no server for you to run. One flat monthly rate, the same as your team grows. |
| ezyVet source (opens in new tab) | founded 2006 in Auckland, New Zealand; acquired by IDEXX in 2021 | Cloud, IDEXX-owned. A monthly subscription whose published figure is an entry floor — the bill climbs as a growing practice turns on more. |
| Vetspire source (opens in new tab) | Pathway Vet Alliance-owned; has an AI Scribe feature | Cloud, Pathway Vet Alliance-owned. Ships a real, shipped AI Scribe — a genuine capability Vivetra does not match today, stated plainly. |
| IDEXX Neo source (opens in new tab) | quote-only pricing, no public figure | Cloud, quote-only. No public number to compare against — you learn the figure after a sales conversation, not before. |
| IDEXX Cornerstone source (opens in new tab) |
2022 federal antitrust suit (Yuen v. IDEXX, D. Maine No. 2:22-cv-00392) alleged exclusive-contract lock-in; federal antitrust claims DISMISSED March 2025; narrower MN/MO/NC state-law claims proceed Legal matter — stated as of the verification date; see the note below. |
On-prem-rooted, quote-only, IDEXX-owned. The claim beside it is a legal matter — read the precise, un-spun version in the note below. |
| Provet Cloud source (opens in new tab) | $99/vet/mo + $249/mo platform (Core); $129/vet/mo + $299/mo (Pro) | Cloud, Nordhealth-owned. Two moving parts that both scale: a per-vet monthly rate plus a fixed monthly platform fee on top. |
| DaySmart Vet source (opens in new tab) | plans starting at $123/mo, scaling by user count | Cloud. The plan price scales by user count — every person you add moves the number up. |
| Shepherd (formerly Hippo Manager) source (opens in new tab) |
acquired Hippo Manager March 1 2025, no option to stay on old platform; ~$119/DVM/mo moved to ~$299/DVM/mo (publicly reported, not vendor-confirmed) Third-party estimate — not a figure this vendor publishes. |
Cloud. A real, publicly-reported vendor-acquisition-risk example: Hippo customers had no option to stay put and saw the per-DVM price rise sharply — see the note below. |
| ImproMed source (opens in new tab) |
~$5k one-time + annual support (third-party estimate, not vendor-published) Third-party estimate — not a figure this vendor publishes. |
On-prem legacy, Covetrus-owned. Licensed as a one-time purchase plus annual support rather than a flat monthly subscription. |
About this comparison. This is Vivetra’s own comparison of competing products — we chose the vendors and wrote the framing, so read it as our argument, checked against sourced facts, not a neutral third party’s. Every competitor pricing figure and claim above is shown as published by that vendor or the cited record, in USD as each vendor quotes it, and was verified as of 2026-08-02. Prices and features move; if a figure here is out of date or wrong, tell us at [email protected] and we correct or remove it within 5 business days. Vivetra’s own price is identical in every supported currency — no conversion, ever — so switching the currency selector only changes the symbol and tax note beside it, never the digits.
On the IDEXX Cornerstone legal note
Because it’s a legal matter, here it is precisely, with no embellishment. A 2022 federal antitrust suit (Yuen et al. v. IDEXX Laboratories, D. Maine No. 2:22-cv-00392) alleged that IDEXX locked practices into long-term exclusive contracts by leveraging its greater-than-70% share of the point-of-care diagnostics market. The federal antitrust claims were dismissed in March 2025 for lack of standing; narrower state consumer-protection claims under Minnesota, Missouri, and North Carolina law are still proceeding as of 2026-08-02.
We raise it only because independence from a single diagnostics vendor is a real reason practices look at software that isn’t tied to a diagnostics company — not to characterize it as more than the record supports. It is not, today, “an active antitrust class action.”
The vendor-acquisition risk, with one real example
When a platform gets bought, the price and the product you signed up for can change out from under you. The publicly-reported Shepherd / Hippo Manager story is the clearest recent example in this category: Shepherd acquired Hippo Manager on March 1, 2025, with no option for customers to stay on the old platform, and Hippo’s former plan (around $119 per DVM per month) moved onto Shepherd’s pricing (around $299 per DVM per month) — roughly 2.5x.
Worth being straight about: the clearest corroborating source we found is a competing vendor’s own blog, so we frame it as publicly reported, not as an unimpeachable fact — the source link on that row goes to exactly what we relied on.
Where Vivetra genuinely falls short today
Hiding a real limitation is worse than not having it. Here are the honest gaps for the Vet Practice service, stated directly.
- No native mobile app — PWA only. The service installs as a Progressive Web App straight from the browser and works like an app icon on a phone or tablet, but it is not an App Store or Play Store listing. If a native app is a hard requirement for your front desk or floor team, know that before you sign up.
- No built-in payment processing. No Vivetra service processes the payments your clients make to your practice — Vivetra builds the estimate and the invoice, but you keep whatever processor you already use to take a card or bank payment. (That’s unrelated to the checkout you’d use to pay your own Vivetra subscription.)
- We’re newer than the incumbents. Several products in the table above have run for years or decades. Vivetra is a newer vendor with less of a track record — a real consideration we’d rather name than let you find out later.
Questions about this comparison
Why is the price the same whether I have 3 people or 30?
Because Vivetra doesn't count seats. Almost every platform in this table charges per vet, per user, or by quote — Provet Cloud stacks a per-vet rate on a fixed platform fee, DaySmart Vet scales by user count, ezyVet and both IDEXX products are quote-only above their entry figure. Vivetra is one flat monthly rate for the service with unlimited doctors and staff and managed hosting included, so the number you see is the number you pay as your team grows.
Do I have to run my own server?
No. Vivetra is fully managed for you — the software runs on infrastructure we operate on your behalf. You never touch a server, never patch an OS, never restore a backup yourself. And because Vivetra isn't owned by a diagnostics company, your practice isn't routed through a single lab vendor's in-house practice-management system by default, so your PMS choice and your lab choice stay separate decisions.
What does Vivetra genuinely NOT do that some of these competitors do?
Two things worth knowing before you sign up, not after. There is no native iPhone or Android app — the Vet Practice service runs as an installable PWA, not an App Store or Play Store listing. And there is no built-in payment processing in any Vivetra service, so your practice keeps its own processor to actually take a client's payment. We're also a newer vendor than incumbents that have run for decades — we'd rather say all of that plainly than let you discover it later.
