ezyVet vs. Instinct Science — and where Vivetra fits

The short answer: ezyVet is a broad, cloud practice-management system that publishes a starting price and markets to general practice, specialty and emergency, corporate groups, universities, large-animal and mobile practices. Instinct Science is a cloud EMR that says it works best in high-volume ERs and specialty hospitals, built around treatment sheets, anesthesia monitoring and a real-time status board, and it doesn’t publish pricing. If you run general practice with some inpatient work, ezyVet is the more natural shortlist. If your floor is a busy ER or referral hospital, Instinct is the one built around that.

Below, every ezyVet and Instinct fact is quoted from the vendor’s own page with a link, checked on the date shown. We also make Vivetra, a flat-rate alternative at $200/mo for one service with unlimited doctors and staff, so we’ve added it as a third column. Where either of them is stronger than us, we say so.

Which is right for you?

Choose ezyVet if…

you want one cloud system across general practice, specialty and emergency, you value a published starting price, and its large integration list and IDEXX ecosystem matter to you. It is the broader of the two.

Choose Instinct if…

your hospital lives on treatment sheets, anesthesia monitoring and a status board, and you want a vendor that says it works best in high-volume ER and specialty settings. If you want to keep your current PIMS, Instinct’s Treatment Plan can run alongside it.

Consider Vivetra if…

your real problem is the bill growing every time you add a doctor. Vivetra is one flat price ($200/mo for one service) with unlimited doctors and staff and hosting included, and you’d accept a newer vendor with a shorter feature list to get that.

Where Vivetra fits in this matchup

Vivetra isn’t trying to out-feature either of these products. It’s a different pricing shape: one flat monthly price for the hospital, no per-doctor or per-seat count, and fully managed hosting included. The Hospital service covers the floor (ward board, treatment sheets, treatment-conflict checks, controlled-substance log). It also gives owners a portal for live hospitalization status, lab results, discharge instructions and remote estimate approval, with a paper path for clients who want one. See the Hospital service or the full hospital comparison.

Where Vivetra genuinely falls short

  • No PACS or DICOM integration. Referral packets can carry imaging files, but Vivetra doesn’t read raw modality files or talk to a PACS. ezyVet lists diagnostic and imaging integrations, and Instinct lists integration with diagnostic imaging systems.
  • Far fewer integrations. ezyVet advertises 100+ integrations, and Instinct lists labs, point-of-care devices and imaging. Vivetra’s integration list is short, so check the devices you rely on before you decide.
  • No published support response time. Instinct publishes a sub-90-second average support response and ezyVet advertises unlimited 24/7 support. We don’t publish an equivalent figure yet.
  • Newer vendor. ezyVet was founded in 2006 and Instinct’s company story begins in 2017; Vivetra’s history is far shorter. If that history is decisive for you, it’s a fair reason to pick one of them.

Questions about this comparison

What is the main difference between ezyVet and Instinct Science?

Scope. ezyVet is a full cloud practice-management system marketed to general practice, specialty, emergency, corporate groups and universities. Instinct EMR is a cloud EMR that its own FAQ says works best in high-volume ERs and specialty hospitals, built around treatment sheets, anesthesia monitoring and a real-time status board. Instinct also sells a separate primary-care EMR and a Treatment Plan product that can run alongside an existing PIMS.

Is ezyVet or Instinct cheaper?

We can’t say, because only one of them publishes a price. ezyVet’s US pricing page: "Get started for as little as $260.50 per month"; says practices from a single veterinarian to hundreds of staff members "always have access to all our features and latest updates"; corporate and enterprise pricing by custom quote. Instinct publishes no price on its EMR page and routes you to a demo. To compare them, get a written quote from each at your actual doctor count.

Can I use Instinct alongside ezyVet?

Instinct says its Treatment Plan can be used as a standalone workflow system alongside your existing PIMS. Neither vendor page we checked named a specific ezyVet integration, so ask both vendors before you assume one exists. ezyVet’s own sibling product for inpatient workflow is Vet Radar, which IDEXX acquired alongside ezyVet.

Are ezyVet and Instinct cloud-based?

Yes, both say so. ezyVet calls itself cloud veterinary software and offers a server-to-cloud migration path. Instinct says Instinct EMR is fully cloud-based. Vivetra is browser-based too, running on a dedicated deployment we manage for you.

Why would a hospital look at Vivetra instead?

For the pricing shape. Vivetra is $200/mo flat for one service, with unlimited doctors and staff and managed hosting included, so adding an overnight doctor doesn’t change the bill. The trade-offs are that we’re newer, have far fewer integrations, have no PACS/DICOM integration, and publish no support SLA yet.
